Inversions and arm balances are empowering postures that teach us not only about our inner strength but about our innate playfulness, courage, fearlessness, agility and ability to create light and space. Learn a pathway to channel these postures into your practice with ease and excitement!

We will tackles postures such as handstand, forearm balance and headstand along with ample variations. We will learn the foundations and layer from there catered to each individual's needs. Expect to also play with several bakasana variations, flying pigeon, eka pada koundinyasana and a few surprise guest appearances! Once we have played with both we will begin to link the inversions and arm balances together with a very basic and accessible approach.

Kathryn completed the Yoga Works training with Chuck Miller and her mentor, Maty Ezraty. A dedicated ashtangi, Kathryn’s classes focus on finding the playful approach to the practice. Full of arm balances and inversions, she teaches in a way that encourages taking chances, opening up and finding laughter. Kathryn is a featured teacher in the documentary film, ‘Y Yoga’, created by Aurthr Klein.

Jesse began her practice when she moved from New York to LA in 1999. She studied Vinyasa Flow with Seane Corne, Vinnie Marino and Annie Carpenter. She then met her mentor, Maty Ezraty, in 2000 and studied with her until she left in 2005. She continues to teach flow classes as well as privately. Jesse is passionate about teaching precise alignment believing that the more one can properly align their bodies, the deeper the practice will move. Once the body opens, the mind will become more quiet and the magical essence of the practice will reveal itself.

"Where does the balance of motion come from? Does the idea of jumping into Bakasana/Crow pose seem out of the question in your mind, and therefore in your body? Are you having trouble finding your force and lift in the opposing forces of arm balances? Arm balances develop lightness, strength, stability, and agility. Tremendous control is achieved over the body, muscle tone is developed, coordination is cultivated, and concentration increases. As we draw our attention to points in the body we heighten our awareness in each layer of the body, and merge that attention and concentration deeper and deeper for higher and higher forms of awareness within us, and throughout us."

————————————————————————
We often cringe at the idea of an intense abdominal routine,
but long for the confidence and strength that is created
in the aftermath. Join Kathryn for an afternoon of focused core
conditioning and abdominal awareness in your everyday postures.
Deepen your arm balances and inversions through the strength of your core.

This workshop will increase your awareness of the abdominal muscles
in your ENTIRE practice, whether it be in a standing pose or the strong pull
needed in an arm balance or inversion. The afternoon will begin traditionally
with sun salutations and a flow to induce heat in the body. We will then
intersperse short but strong abdominal routines throughout the workshop,
followed by an asana that will be enriched from that specific core work.
The often elusive Ashtanga style ‘pick-up and jump back’ will also be
broken down and made accessible through a few simple steps.
You will find a strong awareness in specific areas of the core
needed to build a seamless and strong asana practice.

Come with questions, an adventerous spirit, and a sense of playfulness. Walk away stronger, more confident and aware, and of course, happier!

It is recommended but not required to have 6 months to a year of yoga experience.

~ Kathryn Budig
