National Yoga Project
Presents 5+5= Fit Challenge
A Large-Scale Children’s Yoga Class
at Five Los Angeles Elementary Schools on December 9th, 2010

Five children’s yoga instructors
to lead hundreds of Los Angeles 5th graders in a large-scale yoga class

National Yoga Project, an organization headed by Los Angeles yoga instructor, Sarah Ezrin, is giving students all over Los Angeles an opportunity to practice Yoga. The 5+5= Fit Challenge will be taking place on Thursday, December 9th, 2010 at 10:30am, 1pm, and 1:30pm. 5th grade students will be challenged to participate in a yoga class that will emphasize a healthy mind and body. Five different schools will be participating. The schools include, El Rincon Elementary, Canyon Charter Elementary, Brawerman Elementary, Brentwood School, and Fairburn Elementary School. The student count is well over 250 children.

National Yoga Project is dedicated to bringing Yoga to people and places that normally wouldn’t have the resources. Many schools are losing funding and students are losing access to physical education classes and even valuable recess time. Yoga is a beneficial and accessible alternative; yoga offers the movement our students’ minds and bodies need.

“These days, children are having a harder and harder time staying healthy and present. Yoga addresses both of those issues. It is an incredible way to not only stay fit, but to practice mindfulness and self-acceptance,” says Sarah Ezrin.

National Yoga Project transforms lives by bringing the practice of yoga to places where it is not readily accessible; particularly schools. National Yoga Project believes yoga to be an excellent way for children to get fit and stay healthy. Yoga is also a valuable tool that students can use to overcome any of life’s challenges. Yoga increases students’ self-esteem, attention, and strength. Through the practice, children learn how to pay better attention in school and learn to start listening to their bodies; they begin to understand how to become self-regulated learners.

Sarah Ezrin, founder of National Yoga Project, is a Los Angeles based Yogi and Instructor who has been influenced and mentored by many gifted teachers over the years, including Bryan Kest, Lisa Walford, Sonya Cottle, and Rudy Mettia. Sarah is 500-hour teacher trained through YogaWorks. She is an ambassador for both Lululemon Athletica and Manduka. Sarah hopes to make yoga universal, particularly for those who need it the most. Sarah’s fun but challenging flow classes explore breath-linked movement within intelligent sequencing and a lot of laughter.
